Community service at BHIS Bhopal is not just a part of our curriculum; it is the essence of our ethos. We believe that true education goes beyond textbooks and classrooms, encouraging our students to connect with the world around them through acts of empathy and service.
One of our most recent and emotional experiences was the visit to the cancer hospital. Witnessing the strength and resilience of the patients, our students were deeply moved. The visit provided them with an invaluable lesson in empathy and compassion, reminding them of the importance of kindness, understanding, and offering support to those facing life's most challenging battles.
This experience aligns with many of the other community service initiatives our students have been a part of over the years. Our visits to orphanages like 'Ummeed' have allowed our students to connect with children who, despite facing difficult circumstances, show incredible joy and hope. These interactions have taught our students that the simplest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference in someone’s life.
Additionally, our trips to ‘Aasra,’ an old age home, have provided an opportunity to bridge the gap between generations. Through conversations with the elderly, our students have gained insight into the rich lives and experiences of the senior citizens, fostering a sense of respect and understanding for the wisdom they carry.
Our commitment to the environment is equally integral to our community service philosophy. Our students have been dedicated to planting trees and restoring forests, working tirelessly to spread awareness about deforestation and its impact on the planet. They have learned that serving the earth is as important as serving the people around us, as the future of both is inextricably linked.
Through these experiences, our students are not only gaining knowledge but also developing into compassionate, responsible citizens who understand the importance of giving back and making a difference in the world.
World Cancer Day reminds us of the courage of those fighting cancer, the strength of survivors, and the memory of those we’ve lost. To honor this day, students of Billabong High International School, Bhopal, visited Jawahar Lal Nehru Cancer Hospital, spreading hope, love, and joy among the patients.
During the visit, our students sang songs, read stories, and solved puzzles with patients of all ages. The hospital resonated with laughter and smiles as these moments of connection brought light to many hearts. Witnessing the resilience and optimism of these brave souls left a profound impact on our students.
This experience taught our students the importance of living in the moment, valuing life’s little joys, and extending compassion beyond themselves. It reinforced the power of human connection to heal and uplift, even in the most challenging circumstances.
As they left, our students carried a promise to return and continue spreading happiness. To the courageous warriors fighting cancer, we stand with you, believe in you, and are inspired by your strength. Together, let’s create a world filled with hope and kindness for those who need it most.
At Billabong High International School, Bhopal, sustainability is at the heart of our values. Our Seed Ball Activity, a beloved annual tradition, is a simple yet impactful step toward preserving our planet’s genetic diversity and forest cover.
During their summer break, students from Preschool to High School collect washed and sun-dried seeds from the fruits, vegetables, and flowers they consume. These seeds, which might have otherwise been discarded, become a valuable contribution to our Seed Bank.
In school, students join their classmates and teachers to turn these seeds into seed balls, using mud, compost, and dried leaves. This fun and educational process ensures the seeds remain viable until they are ready to be planted. Workshops for students and teachers add depth to this experience, fostering awareness about environmental conservation. The collected seed balls are then sown by our Organic Farming Club and during plantation drives. In previous years, over 1 lakh seeds found new life during a massive plantation drive at the Ecological Park, Laharpur, covering 1600 hectares with hope for a greener future.
Through this initiative, our students not only contribute to a healthier planet but also grow as young environmentalists, embracing their responsibility to create a brighter, greener tomorrow.
Under the Mission Literacy campaign launched on 14th November, 2018 - Children’s Day, the school adopted the Government Middle School, Neelbad with the intent of contributing selflessly towards the cause of education. Since then, student volunteers have been regularly visiting the Government school to educate the less-privileged kids about basic health and hygiene, evils of child labour, while bestirring within them a love and keenness for learning through elementary education.
It has been an extremely satisfying endeavour, where students have spent time in meaningful activities twice a week with the children of this school. Ranged across Grades 1 to 8, both teachers and the taught have been working on a set curriculum, involving subjects like English, Math, and Science in an interesting and unconventional way. This opportunity gives students a chance to bond with the youngsters and learn valuable life-lessons from them.
A week-long celebration in the month of October is dedicated to 'Joy of Giving’. Children of Pre-school, Primary, Middle, and High School enthusiastically contribute towards the following four categories - Food Grains, Stationery/Storybooks, Clothes & Footwear, and Toys. Such drives not only sensitize children towards the needs of the less fortunate but also bring a bright smile to the receiver, extending the school’s philosophy of creating a united world by touching lives.
